Australian Marine Complex celebrates a decade

    4/03/2014 12:00 AM
    • AMC creates 26,700 jobs and delivers $1.75billion in economic value to WA
    • AMC Common User Facility provides vital infrastructure to service major defence, marine, mining, and oil and gas projects

The Australian Marine Complex (AMC) today held an event to celebrate 10 years of growth and achievements at the complex since opening in 2003.

Located 23km south of Perth in Henderson, the AMC and its Common User Facility (AMC-CUF) provides specialised, purpose-built infrastructure to enable the delivery of large-scale manufacturing, fabrication, assembly, repair and maintenance projects on home soil.

Commerce Minister Michael Mischin said the complex had gone from strength to strength, establishing itself as a world-class integrated maritime industrial facility servicing the defence, marine, mining, and oil and gas sectors.

“The range of State Government-owned infrastructure at the AMC-CUF gives industry the ability to expand and diversify operations without needing to expand their own physical boundaries - helping local companies to be more competitive when tendering for major contracts,” Mr Mischin said.

“Thanks to the AMC, 373 major projects have been undertaken to deliver $1.75billion in economic value for Western Australia and 26,700 local jobs.

“These project and work opportunities could have been lost to interstate and international facilities if not for the capabilities and common use approach offered at the complex.”

Lands Minister Terry Redman said it was important to recognise the success of the complex - an ambitious WA Government initiative - as a significant asset and contributor to the State’s economic prosperity.

“I commend all those involved in the AMC, including the Department of Commerce, LandCorp, AMC Management (WA) Pty Ltd and the hundreds of businesses located there that have made the complex the thriving industrial hub of economic activity it is today,” Mr Redman said.

“I have no doubt the AMC will continue to grow and evolve to meet industry’s challenging market conditions to encourage commercial opportunities for WA-based companies.”
