Sport in Geraldton and the Mid-West has a new home thanks to the opening of the Department of Sport and Recreation’s (DSR) new offices.
Located on Foreshore Drive, Geraldton, DSR’s Mid West Sports House includes open plan workstations, secure storage, a meeting room and conference room available for sports to use free of charge.
“This office is an exciting milestone for sport in the Mid-West,” Sport and Recreation Minister Terry Waldron said.
“Being back in the centre of town and closer to key stakeholders provides an improved and revitalised presence for the department in Geraldton.”
Mid West Sports House accommodates four DSR personnel plus 20 officers and volunteers from sporting organisations working in the Mid-West.
The Mid West office conference room is being named after long serving DSR Mid West regional manager Gary Clark.
“Gary was the Mid West regional manager for 24 years. As an outstanding and long-time member of the department’s regional service, it’s fitting that he receives this honour,” Mr Waldron said.
The Minister was also in Geraldton to officially launch the Mid West Academy of Sport.
The academy, supported by a $550,000 grant from the State Government through Royalties for Regions, will bring together training and expertise to provide development scholarships to athletes, coaches and officials.
