A second high-rise apartment complex has been opened in the Karratha city centre adding more housing options, a commercial precinct and public amenities to the Pilbara community.
Regional Development and Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said the nine-storey Pelago East development by Finbar Group Limited would help attract and retain residents to Karratha.
“Finbar has been a champion of Karratha and the Pilbara Cities vision, having already completed and opened the Pelago West apartments 18 months ago,” Mr Grylls said.
“Together these two complexes have added 288 apartments to Karratha’s residential mix, and completely transformed the skyline.
“They have helped create more diverse housing choice and have met the housing demand in the town. The ground floors of Pelago East and Pelago West boast restaurants and bars, which have also activated the new town centre.”
The construction of the two nine-storey towers is part of a major infrastructure investment and revitalisation of the Karratha town centre under the State Government’s Pilbara Cities initiative.
“Accommodation provided by the Pelago complexes goes a long way to helping realise the Pilbara Cities’ vision of increasing Karratha’s population to 50,000 by 2035,” the Minister said.
The newly completed second tower, Pelago East, features 174 one, two and three-bedroom apartments, 14 commercial spaces, a 20m swimming pool, rooftop barbecues and games area, a bar, gymnasium and sauna.
At street level, plans are in place to grow the Pelago buildings and surrounding area into an entertainment precinct including more restaurants, cinemas and a theatre.
“These towers are helping to make Karratha a highly attractive destination to live, work, play and invest,” Mr Grylls said.
