- Jimmy Barnes to perform at Red Dirt Concert in Kalgoorlie
Event is part of WA Country Cups initiative
Supported by Eventscorp’s Regional Events Program, funded by Royalties for Regions
Australian music legend Jimmy Barnes will perform in Kalgoorlie tonight as part of the WA Country Cups initiative to raise the profile of Kalgoorlie’s horse racing carnival.
Tourism Minister Liza Harvey said the concert would provide a boost for Kalgoorlie on a number of fronts.
The concert would not only help further raise the profile of the Kalgoorlie Cup, but encouraged race-goers to extend their stay, and deliver an added economic boost for the city.
“The concert, with special guests Mahalia Barnes and The Soul Mates, is expected to attract thousands of people, adding vibrancy to the town and providing a boost to local businesses,” Mrs Harvey said.
“It also provides an added incentive for people to extend their stay in Kalgoorlie, encouraging those who are coming for Saturday’s Kalgoorlie Cup to arrive earlier and enjoy the concert.
“The Red Dirt Concert is part of the WA Country Cups initiative, which aims to enhance the experience of racing enthusiasts and raise the profile of WA’s three major thoroughbred cup carnivals in Broome, Kalgoorlie and Bunbury over the next three years.”
The WA Country Cups initiative is supported by the State Government through Eventscorp’s Regional Events Program, which is funded by Royalties for Regions.
Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said it was wonderful to see this Kalgoorlie event develop and expand thanks to the State Government’s commitment to regional events.
“Royalties for Regions funding has significantly boosted the number and calibre of regional events across the State and I encourage everyone to visit the regions to experience a unique racing holiday,” Mr Grylls said.
