Corrigin has celebrated 100 years since its founding with the launch of a pictorial book highlighting the area’s rich history.

Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls joined the celebrations, attending the launch of Moments in Time which presents a photographic record of the Wheatbelt shire’s development over the past century.

Mr Grylls is part of a Corrigin farming family, a former shire councillor and was the member for the seats of Merredin and Central Wheatbelt from 2001 to 2013.

The Minister said Moments in Time was an important historical record for all West Australians.

“The book reflects all aspects of life in regional Western Australia, from the hardship of the pioneers to farming and business, and community activities like sport,” he said.

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Regional Development and Central Wheatbelt MLA Mia Davies also attended the book launch.

Mr Grylls said the Wheatbelt was continuing to grow and develop, in part because of the Liberal National Government’s Royalties for Regions program.

    Key projects include:

    • $300million investment in Seizing the Opportunity Agriculture Initiative
    • $565million towards the Southern Inland Health Initiative.
    • 17 new mobile communications towers in the Wheatbelt through the State Government’s Regional Mobile Communications Program.
