    • Minister launches Foodbank appeal at Challenge Stadium and Arena Joondalup
    • Thousands using venues urged to donate during peak demand for help

Sport and Recreation Minister Terry Waldron has urged people using Challenge Stadium and Arena Joondalup to support an appeal to help people in need this winter.

Mr Waldron called on the thousands of people expected to use the sporting facilities during winter to donate to the VenuesWest Foodbank Appeal.

The Minister asked all visitors to the venues over the next month to donate non-perishable and durable food items to the worthy cause.

“This is a great opportunity for people to make a difference. More than 100,000 people are expected through the doors at Challenge Stadium and Arena Joondalup over the next month and we urge them to dig deep and get involved with the appeal,” he said.

“VenuesWest will work with Foodbank this winter to help our community donate what they can to help reduce hunger. Collection bins are located at reception and around the venues.

“Each year two million Australians, or one in 10, seek assistance with food and around half of them are children.”

Mr Waldron acknowledged that poor health was often a consequence of prolonged hunger.

“For disadvantaged families, maintaining a healthy lifestyle can be difficult when faced with the daily challenge of inadequate nutrition,” the Minister said.

“The staff and patrons of VenuesWest and Arena Joondalup understand the importance of maintaining good health and it is fantastic to have their support.”
