    • New online booking system for driving tests now available
    • State Govt delivers better service which is expected to decrease waiting times
    • Learner drivers will be able to book tests 48 hours to six months in advance

Transport Minister Troy Buswell has launched a new online booking system for driving tests as part of a reform program with the Department of Transport’s driver and vehicle licensing services.

Mr Buswell said learner drivers would be among those who would benefit from the online booking system.

“The Department of Transport is now giving new drivers the option to book practical driving assessments (PDA) online and avoid the sometimes lengthy waiting times on the phone,” he said.

“It’s a real-time system and new assessment times instantly become available as other people change their bookings, giving learner drivers peace of mind they will be able to access a test when they need one.”

The online system allows learner drivers and instructors to book assessments online anywhere from 48 hours to six months in advance.  Bookings will be made available over a longer timeframe, allowing learner drivers to concentrate on preparing for their test, rather than worrying about when they will get a booking.

“The system has already proved successful with driving instructors involved in testing. It puts customers in control - with more choice, more convenient access to services and better use of modern technology,”  Mr Buswell said.

The Minister said learner drivers should do as much supervised driving as possible to prepare for their assessment including driving time in different road, weather and traffic conditions - and then only sit the assessment once they were ready.

PDAs can be booked online for classes car, rigid truck (LR-HR) and motorcycle. Planning along with preparation, practice and patience are the cornerstones of obtaining your driver’s licence.

The new booking system complements other work under way to increase the number of available PDA spots. DoT will launch its new customer-centric website, including DoTDirect - a suite of applications and tools designed to make DoT’s customers’ lives easier - in late July 2013.  The online booking system for PDAs is just one of DoTDirect’s tools.

Customers who are unable to book their PDA using the online system can still visit a DoT centre or call 13 11 56 to make a PDA booking.
