    • ConnectGroups to receive $41,000 from Social Enterprise Fund
Western Australian support groups were today provided State Government funding, when Community Services Minister Robyn McSweeney presented a cheque for $41,000 to ConnectGroups Support Groups Association.

The funding was awarded as part of the Government’s $10million Social Enterprise Fund, launched in April 2012.

Mrs McSweeney said she was delighted the money would go towards a business plan for a serviced office for support groups and individuals to help ConnectGroups continue its important work connecting the public to support groups in their community.

“This space will make a significant difference to the work of ConnectGroups, providing office accommodation, storage facilities and administrative training services,” she said.

“The Liberal-National Government values the vast array of the State’s support groups which exist in nearly every community, and will continue to work in partnership with the not-for-profit sector to deliver better outcomes for WA’s most vulnerable people.

“The Government launched the $10million Social Enterprise Fund to develop and strengthen organisations with a social mission in WA, and that support continues with funding of this kind.”

ConnectGroups has been empowering West Australians since 1983 by linking them to local community support groups, which can include support for grief, men’s health and carers.

This year the Department for Communities will provide nearly $300,000 to ConnectGroups for its support and self-help service.

To date in round one, the Social Enterprise Fund has provided 14 grants totalling $967,650.

Round two of the Social Enterprise Fund was launched by the Minister on November 5, with applications closing on May 3, 2013.
