    Children's Week kicks off in WA

    Community Services Minister Robyn McSweeney has invited all Western Australian families to enjoy the festivities of national Children’s Week 2012, which gets underway today.


    “Children’s Week is a special time to celebrate the rights of children to enjoy their childhood,” Mrs McSweeney said.


    “Having fun and being active with their families is an important way for children to learn about the world around them and I encourage all families to look up the Children’s Week celebrations in their local community to join the fun and celebrate the children in our community.”


    In WA, Children’s Week 2012 opens with the Whiteman Park Family FunSafe Day tomorrow and is expected to draw a crowd, with a smorgasbord of entertainment and interactive activities for the whole family.


    “More than 10,000 people attended the Whiteman Park family day last year and I know this year is going to be just as much fun.  I look forward to meeting all the parents and children there,” the Minister said.


    She said free events would be held throughout the State during the week.


    The State Government supports Children’s Week celebrations and funds Meerilinga Young Children’s Foundation Inc which is the convenor of Children’s Week in WA.


    “I hope all members of our community uses this week to affirm the rights and needs of our children and to celebrate the joy, inspiration and potential of these youngest, but most precious members of our society,” Mrs McSweeney said.
