    • Grants up to $1,000 are available for next year’s National Youth Week
    • Youth groups and organisations encouraged to apply
Youth Minister Robyn McSweeney wants Western Australia’s young people and youth organisations to start thinking creatively in preparation for the 2013 National Youth Week festivities.

Today Mrs McSweeney opened grant applications for up to $1,000 to help West Australians celebrate National Youth Week in April next year.

“National Youth Week is the biggest celebration on the Australian youth calendar and gives young people the opportunity to express their ideas, have their voices heard, showcase their talents and most of all have some fun,” she said.

“Young people make an enormous contribution to Western Australia’s cultural fabric and I encourage youth groups to apply for these grants to help celebrate WA’s youth next year.”

During the 2012 National Youth Week, the Department for Communities sponsored about 80 youth week events across the State with two-thirds of the grants going to regional events.

National Youth Week acknowledges the contributions and vitality of young people aged between 12 and 25 across Australia.  All National Youth Week events are drug and alcohol free and promote positive mental health and well-being in young people.

The Department for Communities hosts the week in WA.
