Tenders to be called for phase three of redevelopment
$55.8million funding includes $15.8million from Royalties for Regions
Phase two scheduled for completion in September
Tenders for the final stage of the $55.8million Kalgoorlie Health Campus redevelopment will be called in November.
Premier Colin Barnett toured the campus today and inspected the work being carried out under phase two of the redevelopment which includes a new front entrance; 16-bay emergency department; six-bed Special Care Unit and four-bed observation ward. A new medical imaging department will also be located in the new building.
Mr Barnett announced that design work for phase three, which would involve refurbishing the building that currently housed the emergency and medical imaging departments, had started.
“When completed, the refurbished building will provide modern facilities for the Outpatient Specialist Services, Allied Health and Medical Records,” he said.
“The emergency department and medical imaging will move into new premises after phase two is completed in September.
“Work on the final phase is scheduled to start in 2013.
“When phase three is completed, at the end of 2014, the people of Kalgoorlie-Boulder will have a modern health facility which will be of great benefit to them and future generations.”
The Premier said the redevelopment was carried out in phases to allow health services to continue to be provided from the campus to the community.
“Phase one, a three bedroom palliative care addition, was opened in December 2010 and construction started on phase two in January 2011,” Mr Barnett said.
