    • $15.2million investment for complete rebuild of the school
    • Historical links to original school remain intact

Lake Gwelup Primary School’s $15.2million rebuild is now complete with a strong focus on its history.

Originally opened in 1914, the school has been an important part of the Gwelup community for almost 100 years.

At the official reopening, Education Minister Liz Constable said the past was a strong focus of the newly built school.

“An old classroom originally built in 1910 and relocated to the school in 1914 was retained in recognition of the school’s rich history,” Dr Constable said.

“The students can learn in the same classroom as former students to appreciate the past and look forward to a bright new future.

“This school has undergone a complete rebuild and every classroom has an interactive whiteboard providing the latest technology for students.

“With pre-primary compulsory from the beginning of 2013, the State Government is committed to ensuring all children have access to state-of-the-art technology from the early years.

School principal Arnold Taylor said one of the school’s focuses was on developing students’ interest in the environment.

We’re not only developing students’ literacy and numeracy skills, we are also ensuring they develop a strong social and environment conscience,” Mr Taylor said. “Our environmental programs include students growing their own vegetables.”

The upgrade was funded with $13million from the State Government and $2.2million from the Building Education Revolution (BER) program.

Carine MLA Tony Krsticevic said he was proud to be part of a Government that had made such an important investment in the Gwelup area.

The Minister said the Government was committed to providing high quality schools for Western Australia’s public school students.
