- Outstanding multicultural community leaders recognised
- Awards a reminder of WA’s success as a diverse society
The City of Rockingham has been commended for raising awareness of young people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) backgrounds in the Rockingham area.
Citizenship and Multicultural Interests Minister John Castrilli said the local government was recognised at last night’s WA Multicultural Community Service Awards for developing projects giving people confidence to contribute and achieve within their local community.
Mr Castrilli said an exceptional group of individuals and organisations were recognised this year for their work towards improving opportunities for West Australians from all walks of life.
The Department of Sport and Recreation received the Engaging the Community Innovation Award for increasing the number of people from CaLD communities engaging in sport and other recreational activities.
The Business Migrant of the Year Award was awarded to Brothers Shahyar and Faryar Gorjy of Yaran Pty Ltd for achievements in the building and property development industry.
The Minister said this year’s quality of nominees demonstrated the breadth of work being undertaken in multicultural services and business sectors in this State.
“The awards promote cultural diversity as an international, economic and social asset for WA and I congratulate those who have made a positive difference in the lives of so many West Australians from CaLD backgrounds,” he said.
