    • Primary and secondary schools amalgamated in $8.5million upgrade
    • Replacement of fire-destroyed library opened
Education Minister Liz Constable today officially opened the new Roleystone Community College, following an $8.5million, three-year program to amalgamate the local primary and district high schools.

More than 700 students are enrolled at the new college, which at the beginning of the school year opened its doors to students from years 1 to 10.

Dr Constable said the amalgamation benefited students and the community.

“Not only will students have improved facilities and study choices, but the amalgamation will also enhance the college’s long-term viability,” she said.

“One of the highlights of the college is the library resource centre, which replaces the previous school library destroyed by fire.”

Other improvements include a new four-classroom block; covered assembly area; upgraded media laboratory; four transportable classrooms; a new lecture room with interactive whiteboards; and upgrades to information and communication technology.

Two kindergarten classes will complete the transition when they are relocated to the new college at the start of term two.

“The new college has a wonderful opportunity to offer students across all year groups interesting and important opportunities to learn, and has already begun this with the launch of its new specialist Film and Television Studies program,” the Minister said.
