A new $2million two-storey building has provided a boost to Mount Lawley Primary School as it prepares to celebrate a century of education.

Education Minister Liz Constable opened the new facilities today, which include a classroom, computer laboratory, teachers’ room and staff and student toilets.

“This new building will provide additional space and upgraded facilities to enhance learning opportunities for students at Mount Lawley Primary School,” Dr Constable said.

“It includes new rooms designed to suit instrumental music lessons as well as space for parents to work with children.

“The building has been integrated with the school’s existing facilities and provides a new courtyard and seating facilities for students.”

Mount Lawley Primary School opened in 1912 and the school has planned a program of activities to mark next year’s 100-year anniversary.

Current and former students, staff and community members will attend a formal celebration on March 12.

The new building joins two new Federal Government-funded teaching blocks and an amphitheatre funded by the school’s Parents and Citizens’ Association.

“The world has changed dramatically during the past 100 years but Mount Lawley Primary School has been a constant in the lives of countless local residents,” the Minister said.

“With these new buildings and strong growth in student numbers the school is well prepared for its next century of education.”
