- Regional firms well represented in finalists
- Innovation driving WA companies towards success
- Winners to be announced October 14
Finalists in the prestigious 2011 Western Australian Industry and Export Awards were announced today by Commerce Minister Simon O’Brien.
Mr O’Brien said the awards recognised the important contribution WA businesses made to the local and national economy by creating employment, prosperity and growth.
“Once again we see the innovation and drive of WA businesses achieving significant success in developing new markets in particularly difficult times,” he said.
“With annual turnovers from $3million to more than $30million, these local companies are all achieving an exceptional level of success.
“The finalists represent a diverse range of sectors, including manufacturing; engineering; marketing and design; innovation; agribusiness; communication technology; resources; and general service sectors.
“I am also pleased to see three regional companies based in WA’s South-West and South Coast as finalists.”
The Minister said WA remained the nation’s biggest exporter accounting for 44.4 per cent of Australia’s total exports according to the 2011 State Statistical Bulletin.
“The strong Australian dollar makes it difficult to enter new markets or sell products overseas, but WA’s innovative business environment has maintained a strong economic performance,” he said.
Now in their 23rd year, the awards feature three industry and 11 export award categories.
The State category winners, including the winner of the prestigious Premier’s Award for Excellence, will be announced at a gala dinner in Perth on Friday October 14. Winners of the State Export Award categories will automatically progress as finalists to the 49th Australian Export Awards. National winners will be announced in Brisbane on December 8 2011.
