Commerce Minister Simon O’Brien today congratulated AGC Industries Pty Ltd on winning a second multi-million dollar contract for Chevron Australia’s $43billion Gorgon project.
Mr O’Brien said in just over a month, AGC had won $62million worth of contracts that would create in excess of 200 local jobs in Western Australia.
“Today, AGC has been awarded a $12million contract to fabricate and supply adjustable pipe support structures for Gorgon,” the Minister said.
“This latest win comes directly off the back of a $50million contract to manufacture 8,200 pipe spools, also for Gorgon.
“Western Australian service and supply companies have the skills and capabilities to support resource projects in every phase of development - a point the Premier and I have been emphasising in our recent communications with major project proponents.
“The State Government is serious about ensuring local industry receives full, fair and reasonable opportunity to participate in major resource projects taking place throughout the State.
“With the awarding of these two contracts we are confident this engagement is helping to achieve positive outcomes for the State.
“There will undoubtedly be comments that these contracts are not enough but I believe this is just the start. This announcement is a win for AGC, a win for local workers and a win for the State.”
