Local Government Minister John Castrilli has congratulated the Shire of Morawa for winning a category of the 2011 National Awards for Local Government.
Mr Castrilli said the ‘Regional Collaborations Award’ recognised the shire’s effort and success in relation to the Morawa Education and Industry Training Alliance.
In all 101 councils took part in this year’s presentation, submitting 152 entries from across the nation.
The Minister said the awards acknowledged innovative ways councils approached the issues facing local government and encouraged councils to continue to work together.
“The awards showcase the resourcefulness and innovation of Australia’s hard working councils in improving services to their communities,” he said.
“They are also an important component of the State Government’s partnership with local government, showcasing unique local solutions to common problems.
Mr Castrilli said the Shire of Morawa was renowned for breaking new ground with its community achievements and economic developments and was no stranger to receiving recompense for its pro-active efforts.
“Last year the shire was crowned as Western Australia’s best at the 2010 Regional Achievement and Community Awards,” he said.
“I once again congratulate the Shire of Morawa for their continuing efforts to improve amenities for their community.”
