Commerce Minister Simon O’Brien today called for companies to enter the 2011 Western Australian Industry and Export Awards.
Now in their 23rd year, the awards are one of the State’s most prestigious business accolades and recognise the success WA businesses have had in international markets.
Mr O’Brien said the awards highlighted the vital contribution WA businesses made to the economic development of the State.
“WA is home to an array of businesses which are achieving exceptional results at home and overseas,” he said.
“This success is directly impacting the local economy through the creation of employment opportunities and increased prosperity in the community.
“The WA Industry and Export Awards showcase and recognise these efforts. They help companies to open doors to new markets, create publicity opportunities, and further enhance their standing amongst their peers and the community in general.
”I encourage all metropolitan and regional-based companies to participate.”
The Minister said last year’s winners included a good cross-section of innovative and enterprising companies unafraid to try new ideas and seek new markets here and abroad.
“Western Australian companies have a successful track record at winning awards at a national level. Results like this prove that companies within the State are on the right track to success,” Mr O’Brien said.
“The people behind WA business, our State’s entrepreneurs, have a strong reputation as some of the nation’s leading exporters. I am sure this year’s program will uncover even more.”
The awards feature 14 industry and export categories and the Premier’s Award for Excellence which last year went to Matrix Composites and Engineering, recognising the importance of local manufacturing.
