National steel building products company Southern Steel has become the first business to open at Flinders Precinct, the first estate within the Latitude 32 Industry Zone, south of Perth.
Commerce Minister Simon O’Brien today officially opened the new facility in the precinct near the Rockingham and Kwinana industrial areas.
“Southern Steel’s ultra-modern facility has set the tone for other businesses looking to become established in Perth’s rapidly growing south metropolitan corridor,” Mr O’Brien said.
“I anticipate other companies will be looking to establish their businesses within this integrated economic hub that offers some of the biggest industrial lots available in Western Australia.”
Southern Steel, established more than 50 years ago in the Eastern States, is the biggest privately-owned steel distributor in Australia.
The company has built an 11,000sqm warehouse and adjoining 600sqm office and administration centre which will initially employ up to 30 people.
The Flinders Precinct site has room for the company to expand its operations and eventually employ up to 100 people.
Another three lots are under contract at the estate. Six lots remain in Stage One of the development, ranging in size from 11,383sqm to 4.5ha.
Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said LandCorp’s estate, which is located near the Australian Marine Complex, is the ideal base for companies to establish their WA operations.
“Flinders Precinct provides room for new businesses to relocate to this fast-developing region and space for existing industry to expand,” Mr Grylls said.
“It will be a modern industrial estate, strengthening the area’s reputation as the country’s leading industrial zone and providing an enormous boost to the Town of Kwinana through the provision of new jobs and community enhancements.”
