Community to help guide development of new Busselton Health Campus

    8/12/2010 12:00 AM

The State Government is to invite two residents of the Busselton area to join a newly-formed community reference group to guide the development phase of the new Busselton Health Campus.

Health Minister Kim Hames said the reference group would also include a representative nominated by local environmental groups, and representatives of other stakeholder groups.

“The Busselton Health Campus is a major project which is going to have a significant benefit for the residents and visitors to this rapidly growing area of the South-West,” Dr Hames said.

“The reference group will act as a two-way communication pathway for interest groups and the local community, providing feedback and input through the development phase.

“While the reference group is not a decision-making body, its members will play a vital role in providing meaningful and constructive input so that there is minimum disruption and maximum benefit to the community.”

The Minister said the roles for members of the reference group would be to ensure communication with the groups that represented and provide feedback from the community in order to ensure the best possible outcome.

“Members will, for instance, put forward views about management of the ringtailed possum habitat and maintenance of services during construction,” Dr Hames said.

He said a Ministerial nomination to the group would ensure an avenue for the direct flow of information to and from the State Government.

Grace Ley, South West Acting Regional Director for WA Country Health Service (WACHS) will chair the reference group.

In addition to community and environmental group representatives, and WACHS project officers, representation would also be invited from:

    • Busselton Chamber of Commerce and Industry
    • Shire of Busselton
    • South West Development Commission
    • GP Down South
    • Busselton Hospital Medical Advisory Committee
    • Naturaliste District Health Advisory Council
    • South West Aboriginal Medical Service
    • Silver Chain
    • St John Ambulance.

Additional members may be co-opted and others invited to attend to provide advice and assistance where necessary.
