The growing community in Yanchep and surrounding suburbs will be serviced by a new $1.4million police facility, which was officially opened today by Police Minister Rob Johnson.
Mr Johnson said the new station provided local police officers with the resources they needed to fight crime, support the community and ensure the area’s busy roads were safe for all road users.
“Until now, the policing of Yanchep has been carried out by police at Two Rocks, located eight kilometres away, but this former station was inadequate and outdated,” he said.
“Thankfully for police and the local community, the new state-of-the-art Yanchep station is a stark improvement on the old facility.
“Its features include a video interview room, secure storage facilities, a high-tech communications room, proper charge dock and custodial area, secure front counter and on-site gym for staff.
“A key feature of the building is its environmental friendliness, with an on-site sewage treatment system, solar power system and solar hot water, a water-wise garden, motion-activated internal lighting and LED external lighting.
“Perth’s north-west corridor is one of the fastest growing areas in Australia, and the new Sun City at Yanchep project is intended to accommodate about 67,000 new homes and up to 155,000 people.
“The new station will provide a more localised police service delivery to the rapidly developing region and will be a welcome boost to community safety in this area.”
The police station is located on Yanchep Beach Road, with access from Marmion Avenue, and will be open to the public 8am to 4pm weekdays.
