Malaga-based Matrix Composites and Engineering Pty Ltd won the Premier’s Award for Excellence at the 2010 Western Australian Industry and Export Awards on Friday night.
The WA Industry and Export Awards showcase the achievements of Western Australian business and recognise the valuable contribution it makes to the State’s economy.
Commerce and Science and Innovation Minister Bill Marmion said Matrix had established a solid reputation nationally and internationally as a leading manufacturer of engineered products for the subsea oil and gas, mining and defence industries.
“The oil and gas industry is vital to the growth of WA’s economy and companies such as Matrix play an important role in the development of this sector,” Mr Marmion said.
“Matrix is an export oriented company and its products, which are all manufactured in WA, are exported to countries such as Brazil, Korea, the United States and a number of other international destinations.
“The company is also planning to open a new world-class production facility at the
Australian Marine Complex in Henderson.
“This facility will house the world’s largest and most sophisticated buoyancy production plant and provide a platform for future export and employment growth.
“I would also like to congratulate all of the other award winners for their achievements and their significant contribution to the State’s economy.”
The winners of the 2010 WA Industry and Export Awards are:

Imaging the South is one of Australia's leading and most progressive providers of diagnostic imaging services and is almost entirely devoted to remote and rural WA. Imaging the South have recently re-branded and changed the name of their company to Global Diagnostics.
Special Commendation: Reflex Instruments (Osborne Park)
Reflex Instruments is a leading supplier of survey and core orientation instruments for the global minerals industry. The company has a presence in all significant mining and exploration regions including Africa, the Asia Pacific and the America’s.
· Marketing and Design Excellence Award - The Perth Mint (East Perth)
The Perth Mint has successfully operated in the competitive global precious metals industry for 25 years and issues some of the most significant bullion and commemorative coin programs ever seen.
· Innovation Excellence Award - Western Mineral Fertilisers (Tenterden)
Western Mineral Fertilisers is a leader in the biology and mineral fertilisers sector through its development of a technologically-advanced mineral fertiliser formulation and manufacturing process with soil microbe blends.

· Small Business Export Award - Epichem Pty Ltd (Murdoch)

Special Commendation: Minemax (West Perth)
