Water Minister Graham Jacobs today announced Dawesville would follow Port Hedland and be provided with a sewerage service, funded from the Liberal-National Government’s $100million Infill Sewerage Program.

Speaking in Dawesville, Dr Jacobs said it was expected that tenders would be called for the estimated $2million project within three months, with work expected to start in January 2011 and be completed by Christmas.

The Minister said the project would involve about 80 services bounded by Luill Crescent in the north; Dawesville Road in the east; Durham Crescent in the south; and Chapman Road to the west..

“I am very pleased to be here today to announce the second project to be awarded for the 2010-11 year,” he said.

Dr Jacobs said while the Water Corporation had completed detailed design for the project, confirming the preliminaries to works component followed by tender documentation would take about three months to complete.

“That means the corporation will be able to call tenders in November 2010,” he said.

“It is expected work will get under way shortly after that, in January next year.”

The Minister said the State Government had allocated $2.1million to allow the Water Corporation to undertake investigation and design work in other infill project areas to get them ‘shovel ready’.

“In the Peel region, projects in Falcon and Murray have been earmarked as part of this allocation,” Dr Jacobs said.

“We are examining further priority areas and the release of this money will allow for a head start on projects in other areas as well.

“Expect further announcements on projects in the next few months.”

The Water Corporation will shortly inform the local community of all details of the Peel projects.
