Work has started on a $5.3million upgrade at Edgewater Train Station.
Transport Minister Simon O’Brien said the work would bring the station’s level of passenger amenity in line with other stations on the Joondalup Line.
“The station is particularly susceptible to the elements,” Mr O’Brien said.
“While the existing platform shelter provides some coverage, passengers entering the station are largely exposed to the wind and rain.
“The upgrade will include construction of a new station canopy, as well as installation of a lift and improved customer information equipment.
“The new canopy will greatly improve weather protection for Edgewater station users.”
As part of construction, the existing shelter will be demolished to make way for the erection of a new canopy.
While the work is under way, about 50 car bays will be taken over for construction activities.
The latest upgrade is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2011. It follows a major extension to the station’s parking facilities early last year.
