The State Government’s commitment to the success of the Ord-East Kimberley Expansion Project has been boosted with the start of a market needs survey by LandCorp.

The survey will promote and inform the subdivision of 8,000 hectares of irrigated agricultural land in the far north of Western Australia.

Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said the survey would allow potential land purchasers to engage with the State Government and provide feedback on their future land needs.

“The Market Needs Survey will provide important information to Government to help create a development which meets the needs of our purchasers,” he said.

“This includes information related to the types of crops people would be interested in growing, their land requirements, transportation, infrastructure needed, expected selling market and purchase options.

“We’re actively engaging with potential land users early so that we can develop the Ord quickly and in line with their needs.

“This is another example of the Royalties for Regions program focusing on developing the rural and remote parts of our State through the commitment of $220million of State Government funding to the Ord-East Kimberley Expansion.

“This initiative is another boost for the social and economic development of the region, and follows the start of initial project works earlier in the year.”

He said the Ord-East Kimberley Expansion Project would see the amount of irrigated agricultural land in the region increased to about 22,000ha, with the first land releases expected in 2011-12.
