Media response - Kimberley oil spill
Portfolio: Mines and Petroleum
Questions asked by: WIN TV
Subject: Kimberley oil spill
Question:
One conservationist has also criticised the State Government for offering leases along the Kimberley coast from Broome to Cape Leveque, from high tide mark to three nautical mile limit. He says a spill in that sort of area would be disastrous. Just wondering if you'd like me to say anything in response to that?
Minister's Response:
“This strip of coast was offered as acreage for exploration under the previous Labor Government. The offer has since lapsed as a result of not receiving any expressions of interest.
“Suggestions that a future spill could occur in this area are completely hypothetical and pointless to speculate about in the face of facts relating to the current situation.”
