Winners of awards announced by the Southern Region Community Leadership Group were presented by Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls in Mandurah today
The presentation followed the recent Southern Region Leadership Forum, held in Denmark.
Mr Grylls said the forum provided skills development workshops which encouraged and recognized excellence and leadership in community groups, volunteers and individual members.
“It provided an ideal opportunity for community members to share information, network with their peers and to be acknowledged for their hard work,” the Minister said.
“The Southern Region Community Leadership Group have been organizing these forums for the past five years and their work was further boosted this year by their successful application to the Peel Regional Grants Scheme, receiving $19,000 from the Royalties for Regions program to co-ordinate a mini forum and skills development opportunities for the Peel region.”
The Regional Grants Scheme aims to improve economic and community infrastructure and services in regional Western Australia.
“This year we were thrilled that winners in three of the four Leadership categories were from our region with Peel community people also being finalists in the fourth category,” acting chief executive of Peel Development Commission, Colleen Yates said.
“In 2010, Peel will host the next Southern Region Leadership Forum and we look forward to our dedicated community members again being acknowledged for their outstanding contributions.”
Further information on the leadership forum or skills development opportunities is available through the Peel Development Commission.
