Western Australian communities will focus on the safety and wellbeing of children this week at local events across the State to mark National Child Protection Week.
The Department for Child Protection will hold more than 25 events in metropolitan, regional and remote communities to raise awareness about the role the entire community can play in preventing child abuse.
Child Protection Minister Robyn McSweeney said events would range from professional and community forums to anti-bullying theatre sports sessions for children and young people, and workshops for parents showing how to make healthy school lunches.
“While each event is unique and tailored to the local community, all events will send the message that we all share the responsibility for keeping children safe,” Mrs McSweeney said.
To coincide with National Child Protection Week, the National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN) today launched the biggest survey of community attitudes ever conducted in Australia.
“This survey is a new approach to getting the whole community thinking and talking about preventing child abuse and neglect and I encourage everyone to complete it,” the Minister said.
“Because we are all responsible for keeping children safe, we can all contribute to making a positive difference to their welfare.”
