Royalties for Regions Funding for the Gija Total Health Project

Portfolio: Regional Development

Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls has visited the Warmun Community which has just received $100,000 through the Kimberley Regional Grants Scheme for the Gija Total Health Project.

“The Project is an exciting and valuable initiative of the Warmun Community because it aims to improve the way of life for the people of Warmun by implementing a range of health related projects,” Mr Grylls said.

The Gija Total Health Project began in June 2008 with the aim to increase social equity of Gija people by making improvements in the provision of mental, social, physical and environmental health services in Warmun and associated out stations.

“The funds will support the Gija Total Health Coordinator position for 12 months to maintain its established programs until long-term funding is secured,” he said.

“This initiative is a great example of regional and remote communities taking control of their futures with the support of the Royalties for Regions program.”

The 2008-09 Kimberley Regional Grants Scheme attracted 117 applications and is a component of the $40million Regional Grants Scheme under the Royalties for Regions program.
