Opening of Murray Health Centre boosts the region

Portfolio: Health

The new $5million Murray Health Centre in Pinjarra was today officially opened by Health Minister Dr Kim Hames, who said the facility would ensure better access to health services in the region.

“The $5million investment ensures that general practice and allied health clinic services in this area will be maintained through specially designed facilities,” Dr Hames said.

“The centre will provide local people with access to a wide range of services, including general practitioners, mental health, paediatrics and allied health.”

The Minister said he was very excited about the new centre, which forms part of the Murray Districts Hospital, and what it meant for people living in the Murray and Waroona districts.

“This area has a significant Aboriginal population and access to services for this group of people can be physically difficult,” he said.

“The facility removes this barrier and will allow patients to be treated much closer to home.

“The opening of the centre is also significant in that it creates employment opportunities for local people and ensures that this site, the Murray Districts Hospital, remains a focal point for the community.”

Two wings of the Murray Districts Hospital have been extensively upgraded and the new centre now provides modern facilities for general practice, Aboriginal health, paediatric early intervention, adult allied health and mental health.

The redevelopment includes upgraded clinical and administrative areas.  With general practice located on the campus, strong partnerships with support health services such as mental health are expected.

The new centre is part of the State Government’s commitment to the southern areas of Perth, which will include the new Fiona Stanley Hospital, the $116million redevelopment of Rockingham General Hospital and a $3million expansion of the emergency department at Peel Health Campus.
