Premier Colin Barnett and Treasurer Troy Buswell today announced the State Government had invited expressions of interest for the new Perth Stadium, using a Design-Build-Finance-Maintain (DBFM) procurement model.
“This represents a major milestone in the new Perth Stadium project, as it is the first step in engaging with the consortia that will help the State to deliver the stadium and its surrounding sports precinct,” Mr Barnett said.
Mr Buswell said the DBFM model would ensure value for money through a competitive design process, and deliver a well-maintained stadium for its long-term life.
The stadium will be owned by the State Government, with the State directly funding the majority of the design and construction costs.
“The Government expects a range of local and international talent to bring their expertise in major infrastructure design and construction to Perth, to ultimately deliver an outstanding facility to enhance Perth’s reputation as a world-class destination,” the Treasurer said.
Expressions of interest close in February 2013, with the State Government to narrow the field to shortlisted respondents by mid-2013.
“This will allow the DBFM contract to be awarded in early 2014, ensuring the stadium will be completed in time for the start of the 2018 AFL season,” Mr Buswell said.
